Thanks to the internet we can keep track of news all the way across the globe, check the free days of our favourite museums, and conduct Urchin meetings from opposite ends of the country. We can also participate in the age-old practice of writers everywhere: procrastination. The internet affords pretty much endless opportunities for procrastination. Here are some of our favourite ways to delay starting an article for just a few more minutes.

Awesome People Hanging Out Together

Awesome people hanging out together (in real life, not the website) is actually one the Urchin Movement’s earliest influences. As we learned of various groups of interesting and creative friends (such as Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, and James Joyce) in our various classes, we realised the importance of collaboration and community in the artistic process. This tumblr is a collection of photographs of artists, writers, musicians, politicians, and world leaders hanging out. The pictures allow you to be a fly on the wall in what must have been some of the world’s most interesting conversations.

Simone de Beauvoir, Jean Paul Sartre, and Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara (Cuba, 1960)

Hark! A Vagrant

Visit the wonderful world of Kate Beaton, whose web comics feature the other, imaginary, and frankly more funny side of history and literature. Learn about the last days of Georges Danton, an accurate day in the life of George Orwell, and what those Nancy Drew book covers really mean! Beaton is currently celebrating the release of her first book of the same title. Below, enjoy her interpretations of those classic Edward Gorey-illustrated book covers of classic works!
